The Anoka-Hennepin School District is reacting to video footage posted on YouTube which appears to show a teacher pushing a black student into desks and placing him in a headlock.
The incident at Champlin Park High School is under investigation, said Mary Olson, district spokeswoman.
"We are fairly confident in saying the situation was not based on race or ethnicity," Olson said. "That's sometimes something that people automatically assume but I want to make it clear that's not the case."
The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations released a statement Friday welcoming the school district's investigation.
