House higher-education committee Chairman Gene Pelowski (DFL-Winona) tells MPR's Tom Weber on The Daily Circuit why he thinks he'll be able to get the constitutionally autonomous University of Minnesota to comply with the performance goals, spending limitations and data requested by the legislature:
"I think given the way the regents' election went this past session, and the hammering that the U took on administrative -- just the sheer number of administrators, on administrative salaries, on administrative bonuses, they don't want any more bad press. They would like some good press. Well, the better press would be to come in and say, 'Here's what we've done to answer all of these concerns and questions,' and to detail for us how it has been done.' That's why we're going to have interim hearings."
