New plant brings 500 jobs to Shakopee

Shakopee expects to gain as many as 500 jobs over the next five years, as a new engineering and manufacturing plant gets up and running in the city.

After months of negotiation, the city says Rosemount Inc., a division of Emerson Electric, has selected a long-vacant building in Shakopee as the plant's home. The building has been empty since 2000, when ADC Telecommunications stopped construction on the facility.

Rosemount, which makes pressure, temperature and other measurement instruments, plans to complete the building. Company president Tom Moser said his firm has 2,000 Twin Cities employees already and needs room to grow,

"We've seen a lot of growth over the last 10 years and really we're frankly out of space," Moser said. "This gives us an opportunity to continue to expand our Minnesota operations."

The project will get $6 million in city, county and state tax breaks and other incentives. The city says the jobs are expected to pay $65,000 a year, on average.
