A former defendant has testified that a Duluth head shop owner would tell his employees how to sell synthetic drugs.

Twenty-five-year-old Jamie Anderson testified Monday at the federal trial of Last Place on Earth owner Jim Carlson. Carlson, his girlfriend and his son are charged with illegally selling banned synthetic drugs.

Anderson told jurors that Carlson would give his employees instructions on how to sell the products that he called "spice" or "incense." They would not tell anyone that it was for smoking and would not sell to anyone who said they intended to use it for illegal purposes.

Anderson worked at the head shop for three years. The Duluth News Tribune reports he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor conspiracy count in April as part of a plea bargain.
