What drove 16 U of M freshmen from their dorms

At the University of Minnesota, you never know what kind of roommate you'll have during Move-In Week.

The Star Tribune reports that mold made its way into Frontier Hall when freshmen set up their digs at the beginning of the term.

Someone found it Sept. 23, at which point:

The department tested 35 rooms, found mold in 16 and had eight of those fully emptied for cleaning, [U spokesman Matt] Hodson said. That means removal of carpet, furniture and insulation around heating and cooling pipes, he added.

The ousted students are now in temporary living quarters on campus and will probably remain there for another two to three weeks while their rooms are “thoroughly cleaned and disinfected,” Hodson said.
