The Minnesota Department of Transportation is wrapping up a big improvement project on Interstate 694 in the next month. But it will require one more weekend of road detours in Arden Hills and New Brighton.
MnDOT officials say the westbound side of Interstate 694 will narrow to a single lane between Interstate 35W and Long Lake Road starting at 7 p.m. today. The roadway will close at 10 p.m., and stay closed through the weekend.
The ramps from north and southbound Interstate 35W to westbound 694 also will close. Drivers will have to take a detour to Highway 10 and Highway 610, then down Highway 252 in Brooklyn Park to return to the westbound interstate.
Crews will be making repairs to concrete and sealing the decking on the westbound I-694 bridge over 35W. The work is part of a highway improvement project from Arden Hills to Brooklyn Center that started in June.

Also this weekend, drivers in Richfield and Bloomington will be detoured from Interstate 494.
Transportation officials will close westbound I-494 between 24th Avenue and Interstate 35W at 10 p.m. Traffic will be routed onto highways 77 and 62. Northbound I-35W traffic headed for westbound 494 will be moved to Highway 62.
The eastbound lanes will remain open.
The road closing, which will allow crews to resurface the roadway, is part of a project to install concrete median barriers and make improvements related to the Xerxes Avenue bridge project.
The road should reopen for the Monday morning rush hour.
