Just got this announcement from Lake Superior College in Duluth late yesterday.
I find the downtown location interesting, especially considering MnSCU's proposal for a systemwide overhaul of course offerings and locations.
Lake Superior College Expands into Downtown Duluth
Lake Superior College has announced that it will open a new campus in Downtown Duluth.
The facility will house integrated manufacturing training programs, including machine tool, welding and computer-aided design programs, as well as some general education courses.
"We've seen an increase in the demand for graduates prepared for careers in manufacturing in our region, especially welders and CNC machinists," said Dr. Patrick Johns, LSC president. "We needed more space to meet the student demand, as well as the needs of our region's manufacturers."
LSC has leased a facility in downtown Duluth at 120 N. 2nd Avenue West, formerly an Advanstar facility.
The college projects that instruction at the site could begin as soon as the start of Spring semester 2014, pending site approval by the U.S. Department of Education and the Higher Learning Commission, the organization that accredits Lake Superior College.
In addition to instructional labs and classrooms, the college will establish a "Fab Lab" on site, focusing on rapid prototyping and reverse engineering on site. That facility will also be available for use by community partners.
