Kerri's book pick of the week is "Above All Things," a fictionalized version of the true tale of George Mallory's attempt to summit Mount Everest.

"It's a wonderful story," Kerri said. "It goes back and forth between George Mallory and his team of climbers and the Sherpas. There's a lot of detail about what happens with the Tibetan community that is climbing with these explorers and what's happening with his wife and his family back in Britain as he's trying to make this climb."

From Thom Geier's Entertainment Weekly review:

Rideout has a real feel for mountaineering, and her depiction of the Everest climb pulses with visceral detail as she smartly toggles between the viewpoints of old pro Mallory and the team's youngest member.

Stephanie also recommended Rebecca Solnit's piece in the London Review of Books.
