Child survivor of pond crash home from hospital

A 5-year-old boy who was trapped underwater after a car accident last month has been released from the hospital.

Amani Coleman-Guerrido was one of five children riding in the car his mother was driving when it went off a St. Louis Park freeway ramp and into a retention pond.

Two of the children, Zenavia Rennie, 5, and Alarious Coleman-Guerrido, 7, died. Two others, 1-year-old Aliyana Rennie and 6-year-old Zarihana Rennie remain hospitalized.

Attorney and family spokesman Rick Petry said Amani left Hennepin County Medical Center over the weekend and is playing with family and friends.

"We have three kids that are doing better, one that's doing really well. Given what they've gone through, I'd have to call it a miracle. I don't know any other way you'd describe it," Petry said.

Authorities have said driver Marion Guerrido, 23, had an instruction permit at the time of the crash, not a full driver's license.

The Minnesota State Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash, but according to a court document filed earlier this month, one of the officials reconstructing the accident told investigators that a preliminary investigation shows evidence that Guerrido over-corrected on the wet highway ramp.
