Minnesota is getting a few extra visitors from Canada this year: We're in the middle of an irruption of snowy owls.

The unusual influx of the owls are being spotted across the northern U.S. They normally live on Canadian tundras -- even in winter.

Carrol Henderson, a non-game wildlife program specialist at the Department of Natural Resources, joined MPR News' Steven John to talk about why the snowy owls have come south. Click the audio player above to hear their conversation.
