Eddy's Lake Mille Lacs Resort will undergo a total overhaul this year, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe said Tuesday.

Plans for the Onamia, Minn., resort include razing existing buildings and rebuilding Eddy's into a "world-class destination resort and restaurant" on the lake, officials said.

"The economy of the entire region revolves around Lake Mille Lacs, and Eddy's resort is no different," Joe Nayquonabe, the band's corporate affairs commissioner, said in a statement. "The fact that we are making a significant investment in the renovation of our lake resort indicates how strongly we believe in the future of the lake." The band did not say how much it was spending on the project.

The Eddy's makeover is part of a broader strategy to boost revenues and investments for the band, which also owns Grand Casino operations in Onamia and Hinckley, Minn.

Last year, the band bought two St. Paul hotels -- the Crowne Plaza and DoubleTree hotels -- giving it ownership of nearly half the hotel room's in the city.

The band also owns a cinema, grocery story, convenience stores, a golf course, wastewater treatment plant, and print shop.
