Most metro-area districts and many others around the state have announced they will be closed Tuesday. This will be the fifth day of cancellations due to cold weather this month for many schools.

The state's three largest school districts — Anoka-Hennepin, St. Paul and Minneapolis — along with Duluth, St. Cloud, Milaca and many others, have announced they will be closed again Tuesday.

Minneapolis has scheduled make-up days on Friday, Feb. 14, and Friday, March 28. Anoka-Hennepin said in a news release that the district has no plans to add make-up days to the school year at this point.

The district said in the release, "The decision to close schools for students and staff is based on the official announcement of the U.S. Weather Service, which states, 'Exposed skin may freeze in as little as five to 10 minutes... The combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.'"

St. Paul is asking all staff, including teachers and teaching assistants, to report to school Tuesday. Teachers will use the day for grading and staff development, according to the district.
