Dayton raises more than $1 million for re-election bid

DFL Gov. Mark Dayton's re-election campaign announced today that it raised more than $1 million in 2013.

Dayton, who is running for a second four-year term, reported that his cash on hand topped $772,000.  The campaign reported back in October that receipts from January through September totaled just over $628,000.

That means his fourth quarter take was roughly $372,000.

In a news release, Campaign Manager Katharine Tinucci said she was pleased with the fundraising.

"This total is more than previous governors have raised in the off-year before re-election, and we are excited to have such a strong start to fundraising for the upcoming campaign.”

Dayton said last summer that his 2014 campaign would rely on donations from supporters rather than his own personal fortune. He said he would not self-finance to the same degree that he did in previous statewide campaigns for governor and U.S. Senate.

This is the first time Dayton has run for re-election to any office. Six Republicans candidates are vying to challenge him in November.

UPDATE

Dayton raised $468,592 in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to Tinucci.
