Around the state, voters have gathered to begin the process of picking who will be on the 2014 ballot.

If you're new to caucus process, read-up on the basics here. You can view the results as they come in on the Secretary of State's website.

Caucus straw poll results are non-binding, but they will give us an idea of where voters come down on the candidates, including the Republican candidates who are seeking to run against Gov. Mark Dayton.

Eyes will also be on the field of six Republican candidates vying to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Al Franken.

Caucus-goers will be deciding on down ballot races tonight, too.

Twitter is buzzing with reports that the crowd is huge and riled up at the Brian Coyle Community Center in Minneapolis where supporters of Minneapolis School Board member Mohamud Noor are hoping to outnumber backers of DFL state Rep. Phyllis Kahn. Noor is new to the school board while Kahn has held her seat for more than 40 years.

MPR News reporter Matt Sepic is on the ground there.

At about 7:45 p.m., Sepic said the caucus at the Brian Coyle Center was called off after a group of people started fighting.

“There was some sort of altercation,” Sepic reports. “The police escorted the people who were fighting out of the building and party officials shut down the caucus.”

UPDATE:

Matt Sepic reports the disagreement was over leadership of the caucus. It didn’t have directly to do with the differences between Kahn and Noor.
