A private memorial is planned for Horst Rechelbacher who died Saturday at the age 72. A native of Austria, Rechelbacher opened a hair salon in Minneapolis in 1965. In 1978, he founded the Aveda Corporation which became highly successfully selling organic beauty products. It was sold to Estee Lauder for $300 million.
Rechelbacher also started the Aveda Institute to train hair stylists. In 2008, he wrote a book about his life and business philosophy and talked to MPR News' Kerri Miller about it.
