This week, romantic show tunes and piano stylings, layers of portraits, and a gut wrenching play about a parent-teacher conference.

Minnesota Museum of American Art curator Christina Chang found Anne Labovitz's exhibition "Layers" to be a refreshing immersion in portraiture art. Christina admires Labovitz's technique of layering portraits of family, friends, and strangers in a way that gives the pieces added depth and mystery. This is the final weekend of the show at the Burnet Gallery at Le Meridien Chambers in Minneapolis.

Jake Scott

Anoka comedy improviser Jake Scott saw a preview performance of "Let's Keep Dancing" last summer, and he liked it so much he's going to see it again. The cabaret style concert features singers Joey Clark and Andrea Leap, plus pianist Jerry Rubino in an evening of romantic musical theater. It's being remounted at Nautilus Music Theater in St. Paul, Feb. 28 through March 2 at 7:30 p.m.

If you're a parent of school-aged children, as is Twin Cities arts and non-profit management consultant Bethany Gladhill, you'll be drawn to "Gidion's Knot," at Pillsbury House Theatre in Minneapolis. But prepare yourself. The one-act play is a harrowing depiction of a parent/teacher conference between a grieving mother and a beleaguered teacher. Through March 23.
