The district and the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers reached the agreement after what they said were "three consecutive days of productive talks."
However neither side would give details about the contract. The union and district say that information will be available once it's been shared with rank and file teachers and the board of education. District and union officials say a contract vote is expected in mid April.
Minneapolis has the third-largest public school district in Minnesota.
St. Paul teachers reached a tentative agreement with their district last month, but not before scheduling a vote to authorize a strike.
Teachers in the Anoka-Hennepin district are also negotiating a contract. Last week the union backed off a threat to hold a strike authorization vote.
