One person died and another escaped from an early Monday morning fire at Brookside Motel in Chanhassen, according to Chanhassen Fire Chief John Wolff.
Firefighters were called at 2:08 a.m. to the single-alarm fire at the motel, at the 700th block of Flying Cloud Drive. The motel is made up of two-unit cabins. The fire happened at one cabin. There was one person in each of the two units, Wolff said, and one unit was fully engulfed in fire upon the arrival of firefighters. One person died in one unit, the person in the other unit was able to escape the fire, he said.
The whole structure became engulfed in fire, Wolff said. The fire was under control at 2:40 a.m., he added.
"It was definitely a wind-driven fire," he said. "But there were no issues or problems with putting the fire out."
The cause of the fire is not yet known, Wolff said, and the fire is under investigation.
