Last year, I blogged about some of the hundreds of gun-related cases prosecuted in Hennepin County. I’m following county gun cases this year too, and updating The Cities each month with some noteworthy items. Here’s what I found in March:
Bloomington Police say when an employee of the Sam's Club on West American Boulevard saw 25-year-old Michael David Henderson pointing a gun at another employee, he said, "really Michael." According to the charges, on March 25 around 9 p.m., Henderson pointed a .22 caliber Beretta semi automatic handgun at two men as he left the store with $10,000 in cash he'd taken from the store's cash room. Police say Henderson pulled the trigger but the gun didn't fire.
Henderson was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated first degree robbery and one count of second degree assault.

According to a search warrant filed recently in Hennepin County District Court, Minneapolis police are looking for a 45-year-old man who allegedly choked his girlfriend and took her gun on March 19. Police say the unnamed woman and her sister stopped in at Triple J Urban Wear on West Broadway Ave. to use the bathroom. There she says she found her boyfriend -- who owns the store -- ‘with’ another woman.
Police say the victim and her boyfriend argued before he choked her until she fell down. According to the search warrant, the woman says she believes she passed out due to the strangulation. She then grabbed her new black and silver 9mm Kahr arms CM9 pistol from her purse or waistband and her boyfriend took it from her. “Victim stated there was a short physical altercation over the firearm before the man pushed the victim out of the front door and locked it,” reads the warrant. He later got into his vehicle and drove away.
Police say the victim has a valid permit to carry a firearm issued by Hennepin County and also provided a receipt for the gun, which was newly purchased.
Police also say the victim's boyfriend has been convicted of a ‘crime of violence’ making him ineligible to legally possess firearms. An officer searched the man's home and didn’t find the stolen gun, but did find a BB gun. A prohibited person is also barred from possessing ‘replica’ firearms.
No charges appear to have been filed yet.
