The search resumed Wednesday for two St. Louis Park men who were reported missing in the mountains west of Denver on Sunday.
Damian McManus and his 18-year-old son Evan are believed to have struck out on a hike at the foot of Mount Evans on Wednesday. Cell phone tracking shows they had left their car and were between their campground and the summit of the well-known mountain.
But Bill Barwick, spokesman for the Evergreen, Colo., based Alpine Rescue Team says the terrain is difficult to search on foot.
"This is not some flatland walk. We're talking about a gain of elevation from 10,000 feet to 12,000 feet almost immediately. It's timbered. Its mountainous. We've got three to five feet of snow," he said.
Helicopters have flown over the area twice, Barwick says, but there has been no sign of the pair since their cell phones were last detected last Wednesday. "The Air Force Rescue Coordination Team was able to discern that the pair's cell phones were active until 3 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday April 2, and were directly south of the campground," he said.
The McManus family, including Damian's wife and mother, have gathered near Mt. Evans.
