Soap Factory Executive Director Ben Heywood thinks we should suspend all relatively empty forms of pop culture consumption until we've seen the film "The Dance of Reality." Ben thinks the return of 85-year-old Chilean surrealist filmmaker and philosopher Alejandro Jodorowsky, after a 23-year hiatus, could ultimately free our minds. Opens June 6 at the Uptown Theater in Minneapolis.
Green T Productions, says St. Paul musician, composer, and ethnomusicologist Miriam Gerberg, has been flying under the Twin Cities theater radar for too long. Green T, which applies traditional Asian drama and dance techniques to create a new brand of theater, has teamed up with Chameleon Theatre Circle to present Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." Miriam saw it and says it's sensational. At the Ames Center (formerly the Burnsville Performing Arts Center) in Burnsville, through June 14.
If you're a sucker for Southern Gothic style music, as is Mother Banjo frontwoman and Minnesota Music Coalition Executive Director Ellen Stanley, then you've got to see the Nashville-based Wild Ponies on Sunday, June 8, at the Aster Cafe in Minneapolis.
