New radio ad attacks Dayton tax policy

The local branch of Americans for Prosperity is spending roughly $100,000 on radio ads targeting Gov. Mark Dayton's tax policy.

The radio spot, which will run for three weeks in the Rochester, Mankato and Duluth areas, features a husband and wife talking about Dayton's politics.

"Mark Dayton is building palaces for politicians, while we struggle to make ends meet," the wife states in the ad in reference to the new Senate Office Building. (Money to build the new facility comes from bonds issued by the state.)

Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota state director John Cooney said his group conducted a survey a few weeks ago and found that people living in more rural parts of the state are particularly frustrated with the economy. The ad is targeted at people who are struggling to make ends meet but are also frustrated with what they view is excessive government spending.

"Folks are not so much concerned about the job they have but their ability to advance," Cooney said. "It's an economy that’s growing slowly... They’re feeling the pinch."
