Torrential rain late this afternoon and early this evening has caused flooding in parts of the Twin Cities metro area.  A flood warning is in effect for parts of the metro until 1130 pm:

FLOOD STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN MN 617 PM CDT SAT JUN 28 2014

FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR WESTERN WASHINGTON, RAMSEY, SOUTHEASTERN HENNEPIN, NORTHWESTERN DAKOTA, SOUTH CENTRAL CHISAGO AND EASTERN ANOKA COUNTIES UNTIL 1130 PM CDT.

AT 611 PM CDT LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED THAT FLOODING WAS OCCURRING ALONG SEVERAL STREETS IN THE TWIN CITIES METRO AREA.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS, DOWNTOWN ST PAUL, BLAINE, EAGAN, FOREST LAKE, FORT SNELLING, LAKE PHALEN, MALL OF AMERICA, MAPLEWOOD, RICHFIELD, ROSEVILLE, SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS, ST PAUL AIRPORT AND UNIV OF MN MINNEAPOLIS CAMPUS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

RAINFALL TOTALS OF NEARLY 2 INCHES HAVE OCCURRED, AND THIS HAS RESULTED IN STREET FLOODING ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. IN PARTICULAR UPTOWN.

MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES, DIPS OR OTHER LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM, EVEN A SMALL ONE, ON FOOT OR IN A VEHICLE.
