September breeze today, Aug-tacular week ahead

Get ready for a changeable and potentially dramatic sky over Minnesota this week.

Our weather hues change from gray to blue today as sunshine replaces a September-like cloud deck swirling east into Wisconsin.

By tonight, a clear sky sets the stage for what may be a spectacular sky show this week. A rare combination of the brightest supermoon in 20 years and the annual Perseid meteor shower should delight sky watchers in Minnesota tonight tonight and Tuesday night.

Minnesotans may rejoice in our weather again this week. Yes, we've earned this summer.

September breeze

You can feel it in this air today. This is not your average August breeze.

For my money the best two months of weather in Minnesota lie just ahead. A beautiful less buggy August and September followed by our annual fall color explosion in early October?

Sign me up.

Our gray blustery morning in eastern Minnesota may be the first real hint that the calendar is moving into mid-August, and September is not far away.

Preview of coming attractions.

Here's a look at the cold front that blows in our taste of September today, and the building high pressure that brings a stunningly beautiful week ahead.

Skies trend from September gray to summer blue today from west to east as the cloud deck departs. Look for more sun as the clearing line moves through this afternoon in the metro.

More free AC

Another lazy high pressure cell drifts overhead this week. Can you beat sunshine, clear nights and comfy dew points in the low 50s? Clearly a "windows open" forecast for good sleeping weather this week.

Now if we can just time the best weather for the weekends. A chance for scattered thundershowers creeps back into the forecast as soon as...Friday night.

Watching State Fair heat potential

Yes, the Great Minnesota Get Together is just over a week away.

Early last week I talked about the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Global Forecast System model hinting at a possible dose of 90-degree heat as State Fair time rolls around. The GFS is still hinting at a brief shot of possible 90-degree temps late next week.
