Septemberish morning, spectacular week unfolds

Yes, it was a "windows open" night across Minnesota. But not that far open.

The coolest night in nearly a month made for great sleeping weather.

  • 40 degrees morning low temp at Embarrass and International Falls

  • 41 degrees low at Crane Lake and Orr

  • 43 degrees  in Ely

  • 57 degrees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (coolest since 55 degrees on July 12)

  • Sept. 6 date of average 57 degree low temp at MSP Airport

This week is is how it should be in August. Plenty of sun, warm days, slightly cool nights. No weather post-traumatic stress disorder cases showing up this month.

Minnesotans have earned every right this year to soak up these last few weeks of summer. Here's the high pressure cell gifting us with bright blue skies and pleasantly warm daytime temps this week.

Forecast: timing is everything

Our spectacular weekday weather is nice, but clearly we need to work on timing. Yes, another slow moving low pressure ripple may trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms again, just in time for the weekend. Ugh.

State Fair: forecast in flux

Ever wonder why forecaster can prematurely gray over next week's forecast? We're almost back into the time of year when large changes in jet stream patterns can happen fast.

Next week's State Fair opener forecast is still in flux. What looks like a steamy opening weekend flipped overnight and the latest suggestions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Global Forecast System model is for upper 80s to start the fair, followed by a noticeably cooler air mass.
