Apple has announced a program to replace malfunctioning batteries in some of its popular iPhone 5 cellular phones, according to the company's website.
Phone owners whose devices need frequent charging or suddenly demonstrate shorter battery life are advise to verify eligibility online. Battery replacement for eligible phones is free. Affected phones were sold between September 2012 and January 2013.
Replacement batteries are now available in the United States and China, and will be available in other countries beginning Aug. 29.
