Authorities have identified the man shot and killed by a St. Paul police officer during a confrontation last week on the city's West Side.
Police say Guillermo Culajay Canas, 36, immediately acted aggressively toward the two officers who arrived on the scene following multiple emergency calls about the man's behavior near the intersection of Wabasha Street and Plato Boulevard.
Canas had reportedly been breaking windows and threatening passersby. He ignored police orders to stop and began approaching one of the officers, who fired multiple shots at Canas, killing him, the department said.
No other information about Canas was made available.
The two officers involved in the shooting were unharmed but believed their lives were in danger, Chief Tom Smith told reporters last week. They are on standard administrative leave.
Editor's note: The initial report from the St. Paul Police Department misspelled Canas' first name and gave the wrong age. The name and age in the story have been updated based on information from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.
