Minnesota Highway 100 will close at 36th Street in St. Louis Park starting at 11 p.m. tonight as crews resurface a bridge over the roadway.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation started the resurfacing last week but stopped after vibrations from the work apparently loosened a 5 pound chunk of concrete from the bridge's underside that fell onto a minivan driving under the bridge.
MnDOT said it needs to finish the job and is closing the highway under the bridge as a precaution.
Detours will start at Minnesota Highway 62 on the south and Interstate 394 on the north, although access to residential areas and businesses along Highway 100 will remain open.
The road is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m., in time for Friday's rush hour.
