California's Napa Valley is best known for its famous wine grapes. But, giant gourds took center stage on Monday for the 41st Annual Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-off in Half Moon Bay.
Thirty pumpkins — all grown in California — were entered in the contest. John Hawkley of Napa claimed the top prize as well as the state record with a 2,058 pound pumpkin. Hawkley took home a cash prize of $12,510, or $6 per pound.
