Two Minnesota teenagers have been recognized for rescuing two fishermen from Long Lake.
Alex Stark and Cody Clements were about to leave the lake in November when they heard Bruce Halvorson and Paul Monahan call for help. The men felt the ice start to give way, and they didn't have time to get to safety before they broke through. They were unable to pull themselves out of the water.
Stark extended a shovel to one of the men, while Clements threw a rope from his portable ice house to the other.
Long Lake Fire Chief James Van Elyll presented the 16-year-olds with citizens' awards for bravery Tuesday night. He says the incident could have ended tragically if not for the quick thinking of the young men.
