An uncommon election process is underway at the Minnesota Capitol.
Nineteen candidates are vying for five spots on the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents.
Regents oversee the university, whose president answers to the board. Because there are five open spots and 19 candidates, the Legislature will choose the new members.

MPR News' Tom Weber talks with Maureen Ramirez, who served as a regent from 2007 to 2013. She is now policy and research director at Growth and Justice, an organization that focuses on progressive action in Minnesota.
