Minnesota joined at least 26 other states when it passed legislation last session that creates a new kind of corporate structure for companies that want to do more than just make a profit.

Several Minnesota businesses have taken advantage of the new law and filed to become public benefit corporations.

Public benefit corporations will have to produce some kind of positive benefit for society or the environment - not just shareholders - and report that impact to the Secretary of State's office.

Sunrise Banks was among the companies that lobbied for the change - and filed when the law took effect this month. CEO David Reiling joins The Daily Circuit to discuss the law.
