Memo: Madison, Milwaukee would see largest UW budget cuts

A new report estimates University of Wisconsin campuses in Madison and Milwaukee would see the largest cuts of the UW System schools in the first year of Republican Gov. Scott Walker's state budget.

Walker's budget calls for cutting $300 million from the system over the next two years, with a $150 million cut coming in the year that begins this July 1.

A Legislative Fiscal Bureau memo prepared for Democratic state Sen. Janet Bewley and released Thursday estimates UW-Madison would see a $57.7 million cut in the budget's first year. UW-Milwaukee would see a $19.9 million cut. The other four-year campuses would see cuts ranging from $7.6 million to $2.3 million.

UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank announced Thursday she would hold three public forums on the cuts in Madison next week.
