Today's Morning Edition music is the song "Well, All Right" by Buddy Holly and the Crickets, a tune that was co-written by Crickets standup bass player Joe Mauldin. 


We learned this week that Mauldin passed away at the age of 74. Like Holly, Mauldin grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He became one of the Crickets in 1957 when he was just 16 years old, and a year later he was on "The Ed Sullivan Show."  


After the Crickets stopped playing together, Mauldin got a job as an engineer working with Phil Spector at Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles. 


Eventually the surviving members of the Crickets reunited. Mauldin played with them until shortly before his death on Saturday.
