A Crystal man has admitted shooting a Minneapolis police officer who answered a burglary call in February.
Andrew Neal, 43, was charged for breaking into the north Minneapolis home of the mother of his child early the morning of Feb. 21. Another occupant of the home called police and an officer who responded to the scene was shot in the street, but didn't see who'd fired.
The officer was hit in the shoulder but has returned to his assigned duties.
Neal was arrested after a daylong manhunt in Minneapolis. The Hennepin County attorney's office said he admitted firing the shot that hit the officer when he pleaded to the burglary charge last week. He was charged with the police shooting on Monday and has pleaded guilty to that charge as well.
He was sentenced to 13 years for the shooting and nine years for the burglary, to be served concurrently.
