Commission: Canada committed 'cultural genocide' against indigenous children

For more than a century the Canadian government forced indigenous children to go to schools operated by the church that aimed to teach mainstream culture and assimilate the children into society.

These programs, from 1883 through 1998, amounted to "cultural genocide," according to a long-anticipated report released earlier this month by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

MPR News' Tom Weber talks with Commissioner Marie Wilson about the report's findings.
