The large mesoscale convective system that developed in the Dakotas and rumbled across central and southern Minnesota overnight was over Wisconsin at mid-morning.
The infrared satellite image from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration depicted the cold cloud tops of this large thunderstorm complex.
Some delayed severe weather reports indicate isolated wind damage in south central Minnesota from the thunderstorms. Here are the reports of severe weather as gathered at the Storm Prediction Center. Reports of hail and winds collected by the Twin Cities National Weather Service include wind damage in the southern Minnesota towns of Fairmont, St. James and Albert Lea.
Rainfall of 3.35 inches accumulated at Ellendale in Steele County in south central Minnesota. More than 3 inches of rain was measured in Austin, Minn.

My rain gauge in the southwest Twin Cities Metro collected 1.3 inches of rain this morning.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will roam northern Minnesota this afternoon, but the big storms will hammer Milwaukee and the Chicago area.

Wind gusts on the back side of the storms reached 74 mph in Worthington, Minn., at 7 a.m. Many locations in southwest Minnesota had winds of up to 60 mph, not associated with the thunderstorms.
The visible satellite image from 1015 a.m. showed clouds giving way to sunshine in central and southwest Minnesota.
