Minneapolis Council to vote on relaxing apartment parking rules

A plan to stop requiring some apartment developers in Minneapolis to build parking spots will have a final, controversial vote Friday in the City Council.

The plan aims to reduce the costs passed on to renters. Parking can cost about $25,000 per spot in some garages.

The proposal's author, Council Member Lisa Bender, joined MPR News' Tom Weber to talk about the rationale behind the move, and why it has some in the city up in arms.
