Judge jails kids for refusing to spend time with dad

Just one question: What kind of father watches his three kids carted off to jail for refusing to have lunch with him?

In Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Judge Lisa Gorcyca has sent three children of Maya Eibschitz-Tsimhoni and Omer Tsimhoni to juvenile detention because they refused to have "a healthy relationship" with their father, who is in the middle of a messy divorce with their mother.

"You are a defiant, contemptuous young man," the judge said to the oldest child -- a 15-year old -- when he claimed he'd seen his father hit his mother.

And that wasn't even the worst of it, WJBK in Detroit reports, citing court transcripts.

The judge blamed the mother for "brainwashing" the children, but punished the children.

The lawyer for the mother refused to talk about the situation, when asked by the Detroit Free Press.

"The law is to operate in the 'best interests of the children',"Larry Dubin, a law professor at University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, tells the Detroit News. "I find it hard to imagine how children being placed at Children's Village for any length of time is in their best interests."
