"Listen to What the Man Said," by Wings, was the No. 1 song on the U.S. pop charts 40 years ago.
Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney, his wife at the time, founded Wings shortly after the Beatles' breakup.
He said the band was unsatisfied with early recordings of the song.
Then they found Tom Scott, who had made a name for himself as a jazz musician and composer. He lived near the New Orleans spot where Wings was recording, so they called him. Scott turned up within a half-hour — with his sax.
McCartney said the band couldn't believe how well Scott played during his first take of the song's saxophone solo — well enough to help the song sell more than a million copies.
