A push to get rid of a city requirement that couples homeless shelters with religious institutions is gaining ground in Minneapolis.

Proponents argue the current law is outdated and ties the hands of those looking to serve the homeless.

The city held its second community meeting on the proposed change last night.

Gail Dorfman is executive director of St. Stephen's Human Services, which has long operated a church-based shelter in Minneapolis. She wpoke with MPR News' Cathy Wurzer.
