The all-female R&B group TLC became the best-selling American female group of all time.

The group's "Waterfalls" addressed social issues like drug violence and AIDS. It hit No. 1 on the charts twenty years ago this week.

In-fighting and disputes with producers eventually led to TLC's breakup. In 2002, group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes died in a car crash.

Earlier this year, the remaining members of TLC — Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas — announced a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to make what they call their final album. The pair raised far more than their goal, but there's no word yet on a release date.
