U of M's top IT official resigns

The chief information officer at the University of Minnesota has resigned, the school confirmed Friday.

"The U is a great place and I learned a lot, but my passion is elsewhere," Scott Studham said in an email.

The university says Bernard Gulacheck, associate vice president for information technology, will step in as interim vice president and CIO while a national search is done for Studham's replacement.

As the top IT officer, Studham oversaw a massive upgrade of software that all campuses used for business and academic operations that began in April.

He'd previously been CIO at the University of Tennessee.

Studham said his next venture will focus on using technology to help K-12 home-schooled students.

University officials say Studham's departure is not related to recent investigations and resignations in the athletics department.
