The Space Weather Prediction Center is predicting a strong possibility of Northern Lights tonight with a peak between 3 a.m. and dawn.

A strong geomagnetic storm was detected earlier today on the sun, rated at G2 to G3 on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration geomagnetic storms scale. The scale rates solar storms from G1 (minor) to G5 (extreme).

Northern Lights are more likely to occur at lower latitudes with strong geomagnetic storms.
