Asian Americans are expected to outnumber Hispanic Americans in the US over the next 50 years, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center.
The study looks at numbers through 2065 — but the tipping point should be around 2055.
That's when Asians will make up 36 percent of the immigrant population — compared with 34 percent Hispanics.
U of M history professor Erika Lee was on MPR News with Tom Weber to discuss the new research and her book The Making of Asian America: A History.
The book is a sweeping look at the story of Asian Americans across five centuries. Lee, the granddaughter of Chinese immigrants and the Director of the Immigration History Research Center at the University of Minnesota.
