Police say the victims are the suspect's father and the suspect's former girlfriend.
In their investigation, Chaska police followed up on a tip that the suspected shooter, Joshua Gilpin, was in a home in Jordan.
A search warrant was issued and a SWAT team entered and searched the residence, but did not find the man. Jordan schools were delayed two hours as the investigation took place there.
Police said shortly after 11 a.m. Friday that Gilpin was arrested in the city of Jordan without incident.
Officers arrived at the home around 9:30 p.m. Thursday to find the 60-year-old father down in the front yard with multiple wounds and the 29-year-old ex-girlfriend inside the home with a neck wound.
A police statement Friday says both victims are in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center but are expected to survive.
Police say the woman lived at the home with her parents and her 4-year-old son. They say the suspect had returned the child to the home after a visit, and that the suspect's father accompanied them.
