Today's Morning Edition music is from The Who with "My Generation," which was released 50 years ago Thursday.

Pete Townsend, who wrote the lyrics, says his contempt for the older generation was inspired in part by a specific incident. 

He lived in a flat near Buckingham Palace and drove a Packard hearse, which he parked out front. Townsend says that the Queen Mother saw it and was offended and ordered the police to tow it away.
