Today's Morning Edition music is from Bob Dylan with "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, it Takes a Train to Cry," a song that fans know well from his iconic album, "Highway 61 Revisited."

But when Dylan was recording that music back in 1965, a track that ended up on the album was often just one of many very different variations of the same song.

You can hear how the songs of that era evolved in the studio on volume 12 of Dylan's bootleg series, which comes out Friday. For example, the band played this tune much faster in an alternate take.
