Volunteers Janice Constable and Steve Masten, part of the University of Minnesota Raptor Center's ''Flight Crew,'' work to help rehabilitate eagles so they can be released back into the wild.
On Nov. 4, they took a juvenile bald eagle for a workout at Como Regional Park in St. Paul. It was the eagle's second test flight since it arrived with a fractured breastbone in June. They hope it will be ready in a little more than a month to join adult bald eagles that have migrated to open water in the Mississippi River near Wabasha.
Constable and Masten between them have more than 24 years of experience working with bald eagles. They bring the young birds out for flights one to four times a week, depending on the bird's strength and flying ability.
