Henn Co. Atty assigns prosecutor to work with BCA and FBI on Clark investigation

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman joined MPR News' Tom Weber to discuss his office's involvement in the Jamar Clark investigation. He outlined the current status of and the next steps for the inquiry.

"We, like everyone else, want to see a thorough, complete and fair investigation of the events that led up to the death of Mr. Clark," Freeman said. "Once that investigation is completed — it's ongoing with both state and federal authorities — the case will be presented to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. We'll review the entire case file, and when it's complete, we will follow our usual procedure and present it to a Hennepin County grand jury for their independent review on whether any charges will be brought."

While the Attorney's Office awaits the findings of the state and federal investigations, they have assigned a senior prosecutor to work with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI.

"That's a bit of an unusual step, we don't do that in all cases, but this is a very high profile case of great concern to everyone, so we have one of our most senior prosecutors working directly with the BCA and FBI while we speak."
